Independent Old Town Walking Guide
Taxi to Pile, walk Stradun, manage your own return — DIY Dubrovnik done right.
Dubrovnik Old Town is one of the Adriatic's best DIY walks from a cruise terminal. This excursion product is a guided safety net — but the route works independently with a pre-booked afternoon taxi back to Gruž.
Taxi to Pile Gate (€12–18), walk Stradun east to Luža Square, detour to Dominican Monastery and St Blaise Church, lunch in a side-lane konoba, return taxi 90 minutes before all-aboard.
Buy city walls tickets online if adding the rampart circuit — do not rely on walk-up entry in July or August. Cable car tickets similarly benefit from advance purchase.
You manage timing alone — no ship delay guarantee. Ideal for experienced cruisers who have navigated Mediterranean ports before.

Getting there from the cruise port
Ships dock at Gruž (Gruz) commercial cruise terminal, 2.5 km from Pile Gate. Allow 10–15 minutes by taxi to the Old Town walls or 25–35 minutes on foot along the waterfront. Confirm your all-aboard time and keep a 60–90 minute buffer — summer queues at the city walls ticket office and Mount Srđ cable car can add 20–30 minutes to your return.
Tips for cruise passengers
